Paying Staff For Time Not Results All organizations that are not 100% commission-based run the risk of paying staff just to turn up (paying for time) and are not paying for Results... Paying More To Get Buy-In The belief is that “you get what you pay for”.  This should imply that the more you pay the better the result that you get. Unfortunately this is crazy... More Time Equals More Productivity The belief is that if a little bit of something is good then more is better. Therefore the more time we are working the better, right?... Denying Mistakes & Shifting Blame To any honest person, this crazy statement seems self-evident. Of course honest and responsible people take full ownership of what they have or haven’t done... Denying a Dysfuntional Culture Many management ‘gurus’ suggest positive enforcement and motivation are key. They also suggest "believe it, you will create it" and thus people tend to aggrandise their work culture... Denying Self Evident Bad News When you are denying the self-evident you appear foolish or incompetent.  This compounds with any trust issues... Sticking To A Broken Economist View A never ending cycle that reinforces the need for an Economic Model, not the need for accuracy... Ignoring The Science of Psychology People come with foibles, quirks, interests, family pressures, peer groups and 'disorders' that make them irrational... Using 'Time Off' As A Perk Valuing Time, or worse 'time-at-work', as the common ground sets up the inevitable issues of work-life balance.  Where Work and Life are competing for the finite resource of a persons’ time... Ignoring Non- Financial Incentives Non-financial benefits can be more specifically-aimed (purposeful) and thus generate extra benefits for the company without causing direct cash cost... Building A Culture Without Rules The belief is that employees are adults and can be treated as such. They don't need rules, they should be responsible. They don't need games, they are not at playgroup, and they are at work...
